“Players and coaches were locked out of the venue before calling in a plumber who used a blow torch to break through in a seven-hour ordeal.”

Think they might have been a bit quicker using a locksmith !

Perhaps it might be worthwhile investing in a small home safe. They are priced from just under £50.

Can easily be mounted out of sight inside a cupboard or unit. Then just get into the habit of popping your car keys (and house keys) into the safe as soon as you come home.

Could save a lot of heartache !

Students beware ! Con artist at work.

Just had to change a lock for a young female student this afternoon. She had just moved into a city centre flat and was approached by a young woman who said she was from the flat’s landlords and could she have a set of keys to allow access for the landlord. Unfortunately the student fell for it and parted with a set of keys. Having had time to think about it she phoned the letting agent who of course knew nothing about it.

If you are in any doubt about such matters, please phone your letting agent before handing over keys … and phone the police if the agents know nothing about it.

Lastly if you have been duped …. get the locks changed immediately.

Couple of dodgy phone calls this week!

After 20 years at this game you can usually “tell” when something isn’t quite right when somebody phones you. I had a call from some guy who started off by saying that a good friend of his had recommended me. She had told him I was very good. He was locked out on both mortice and yale. Could I come right away as it was a bit urgent. There was just something not quite right. He just sounded a bit too pushy. I asked him who this “good friend” was that had recommended me. “Oh I can’t remember what her name is”…. eh ….. sorry me old mate I’m a bit busy !

You can’t be too careful … I have had unscrupulous landlords trying to get me to change locks on tenants that haven’t paid their rent …..(OK … that’s wrong that they haven’t paid their rent … but unfortunately it is also wrong / illegal to change their locks without going through due process).
